VIEWS TO IMPLEMENTING AN IDEA

It is something unfortunate thing that when ever any new things are invented or developed for any purpose there always remains a question mark with every new things like will it work, how will it work, and what will be the end result. Then also many people go on working with their ideas to innovate the things to take best result from its invention, and this could be the right way to be practical with the ideas to built something innovative that could really helpful to us. It may be possible with such kind of principles seeing to the birds flying in the sky, one of us could click an idea in its mind to build some gadget that could make a human to fly like bird in the sky. Then man had implemented his idea into practical making a glider a powerless gadget which could glide with the flow of wind and from then started the race of flying with different gadgets and machines creating huge aviation industries. We human came far with these flying machines by using best technology to produce incredible planes and gliders. It is little more then one hundred year ago this race was started and with in this long period of time we human had mastered the flying technique with machines and flying gadgets, and also achieved the great speed conquering the sky with high altitude and beyond in to space. This is a never ending story and we human are still pushing the limit to take flying to the extreme, by exploring the new ideas innovating with the old and past technology to discover something ultimate techniques to be used in future.

From the day first when we took first flight in the air till now seeing all these flying machines and gadgets and hearing more news about the flying technology improving our abilities of flying comparing to the birds and we say that we are flying like birds. This type of saying that we fly like birds surprise me and force me to think that do we really fly like birds by any angle and after thinking lot I always come to the conclusion that no we don’t fly like birds or not even we can imitate the flying way of the birds. If we see to birds their flight are self powered by flapping wings, they don’t use any kinds of the gadgets instead they navigates with its strong memory, they don’t use any artificial protective gears while flying, they don’t need radar or communication gizmos to approach their destination. The only tools the birds rely on for flying is to power the flight by itself and having good sensing abilities.

Few hundred years ago when Leonardo Da Vinci had drawn his flying thought on sketch, it was something like a pair of wings and a tail attached with the handles and leaver to make action of flapping like birds. The design was good to look but where goes wrong technically don’t know till now that type of designed gadget didn’t flew. It is agreed that some people had tried to fly with the gadget which could flap its wings like birds, but yet no body succeeded with the flapping wings ideas. We human are so greedy and selfish that instead of learning thoroughly more about the way these birds fly with the flapping technique, we just satisfied our self thinking that we did get lift up in the air by any way any how and this is enough to say that we too can fly like birds. From then we had misguided our self and keep developing the machines and gadgets which were supposed to work on big or small engines, forgetting the basic principles of flying like birds by flapping wings. This may be our big mistake which had diverted our concentration from the original track of flying like birds by flapping wings, like same thing happen with our other machine called car. In the beginning when first car was made it was supposed to run on electric motor, then soon after the car starts running on engines which burns lots of fuel to keep running. The car which use to run on engines were much faster then to the car which runs with the electric motor, and also the electric car were not efficient by performance so we people stick to be with the car that were running with the engines. Now the problems begins to take its course the fuel which is used to run engines is running out with the stock in nature and now we people are forced to think the substitute power that could run our cars and our machineries.

Since we had found the solution how to fly in the sky we did have developed many machines and flying gadgets that can take us to high altitude and can cover great distance. It is a good thing and we should be thankful to those people that had struggled lot to make such machine which is making our travelling easier and faster with any distance. After covering the long time period by the aviation industries with the ultimate technology we are still not be able to develop the flying gadget that could fly with flapping beats, infact if I am not wrong to say that we have not yet developed the design which may look and can work like the birds wings. Even though there are availabilities with detailed information about flying techniques of different kind of birds that are found in library with book notes as well as in form of documentary films, which could makes us to study and can understand easily about the birds behaviour specially how they can fly with flapping their wings. I believe that if any enthusiast who reads or see the films thoroughly and try to understand exploring about the bird’s different flying techniques can definitely do much more then to just fly in the air. One main reason of all not yet succeeded by us to fly with flapping wings like birds do is that we human didn’t really adopted the way, style, and techniques that birds do fly with it.

Flying like birds with flapping wings can be easier and it is possible to us to work with it because we human have the good thinking and understanding power about how all things works and we can imitate the action or style to that particular thing that we want. To work with the flapping wings we must go deep into the study about the flying style of birds and learn about every minute detail of all the action that the bird’s uses for flying with the flapping technique. There is couple of things to remember that we should study and work with those birds whose size and weight ratio should come close to match with us human. So we should compare our self to the bigger birds then to the smaller and it is because as their size is bigger the weight of the bird is more and this all stuff makes the flying style of these birds like getting off the ground flying with low flapping rate and making soft landing with all its weight can helps us to learn to make possible the flying with flapping technique. One more important thing to remember if we really want to fly like bird then we should get so close to the knowledge of flying skill and techniques supported with our efficient flying gadget which should resemble and work like the bird’s wing.  

Since I am very much interested in to the subject of flying like birds, I had concentrated on the particular technique for flying in air like birds fly with the technique of its flapping wings. So till now I had tried to explain with my point of view in simple words the way and the technique of different birds which they use during their flying course. Hope so after reading the explanation how the birds fly readers might have understood the basic principles of flying with flapping wings. Further continuing the subject we will explore and learn how to implement the technique and skill to fly with flapping wings by building the unique gadget with innovated idea which could take a human in the air flying like birds. Recalling some points mentioned in the previous two chapters about flying with flapping wings that what all qualities should be required comparing to the bird’s wings to design and built the gadget with our latest available technology.

The points that surely has to remember and to revise which will help to explore further and to think for making a very close design in mind that could resemble to the bird’s wings are,

  • The gadget design should look like same as bird.
  • The dimension of the gadget should be as per ratio to the bird.
  • The wings of the gadget must have sufficient surface area to lift the whole weight (weight of person + weight of the gadget).
  • The wing span of the gadget should be according to the height of the person.
  • The most important thing about the gadget is that it must have the flexible wings like bird.
  • If possible the weight of the gadget should be lesser then to the existed gadgets like hang glider.
  • The gadget must be compact and must be easier to handle and carry to the flying site.

Let us check the detail of above mentioned points with some description that could really help us to explore this subject, so that we can think with broad mind to develop the design and then we can implement the idea to build the gadget which can make possible to fly us with practical.

The gadget design should look like same as bird because the birds are the real ruler of the sky and they fly with their naturally available structure no adding or extracting any of the extra fits to improve their flying skill. Since the birds are evolved from billions of years, the different species had adapted different skill and techniques according to their habitats and environments, but if we see the basic structure of the all birds’ species either it may large birds or small birds they all look like similar to each other. It is simple thing that could be easily understand that to fly in the sky all bird species have a pair of wings, aerodynamic body shape, and a tail, so how could we ignore the real and natural design which is being working since past billions of years.
So the design of the gadget should have a pair of wings with a tail to look and could work for flying like birds. 

The dimension of the gadget should be as per ratio to the birds, as we human body has weight heavier then to compare with the birds. To get matched the ratio we have to look in to the structure of bigger birds like Vultures, Wondering Albatross, Mute Swan, and so on. As these all big birds too have much weight compare to the small birds its body construction along with the wings are also bigger to cop up with its heavy body weight.
So the dimension of the gadget should be according to the ratio of the large birds matching to weight with length and breadth.

The wings of the gadget must have sufficient surface area to lift the whole weight (weight of person + weight of the gadget). There is some specific calculation to fly with the simple rigid wings and with the wings which could flap for flying. All gadgets that has fixed and rigid wings are flown with sufficient engine that gives enough thrust to keep hanging in the air and the gadgets those are powerless are left to freefall to glide all the way towards ground. Till today nobody had yet developed the flying gadget which may work and fly by flapping wings obviously there is no such calculation either by theory that could show or guide to built a gadget that could fly with flapping wings. It is sure that there is some calculation to fly with heavy body weight having bigger wing span. As I had studied about some bigger birds all individual species has its wing span balancing with its weight, here I would like to explain this calculation with couple of examples,

  • If we see to Vulture’s structure and try to set a triangle shape of its wings we gets approximate size of the triangle of 9 feet base and 1.5 feet height, to find the area by calculation we gets result some what like this 4.5*1.5=6.75 sqft. Further calculating this area with the Vulture’s weight which could be nearly 9 kilos the result we gets is 9/6.75=1.33, this means one square feet area of wings can lift weight up to 1.33 kilos.
  • Taking another example of similar large bird like Wondering Albatross which has the largest wings span and also having much heavy weight comparing to any other big birds. Albatross has wing span of 11 feet across with the weight of 12 kilos, so if we calculate this figure some what like this 5.5*1.5=8.25 sqft, further calculating with its weight say 12/8.25=1.45, here it means one square feet area of wings can carry weight up to 1.45 kilos.
  • Checking one more example of my favorite bird called Black kite, it has wing span of 7 feet across and weigh up to 5 kilos. Calculating these numbers with same principle say 3.5*1.25=4.375 sqft, therefore 5/4.375=1.14, so the result is one square feet of surface area carries 1.14 kilos weight.

Finding the average weight to carry by one square feet surface area of wings is approximately 1.30 kilos. This figure is calculated with the large and the heavy birds so this equation can implement with us and our gadget to get very close result to the mentioned figure.

The wing span of the gadget should be according to the height of the person, it sounds different comparing with existed rigid and fixed wings powerless flying gadgets which has wing span of 30 feet to 40 feet across. Those gadgets which fly with the engines have too less wing span of 15 feet to 18 feet give and take. If we check the length of the one wing from the root to its edge we will find the wing size is just double to the length of its body, same principle of calculation is applicable to other side of wing. The tail of the bird is also having its length equal to its body length. This calculation could help us to think for making better and convenient design according to the height of any one person.
From this explanation one can get rough idea to find the length of the gadget’s wing span according to the height of any person.

The most important thing about the gadget is that it must have the flexible wings like bird. the flying gadgets which are currently in use have rigid and fixed wings and that cannot power itself to fly, to move forward gadgets has to powered by the engines and the gadgets which are powerless called as gliders, they just glide down towards the ground covering some distance by flowing with the wind. If the gadget may have some flexibility with its wings to close edge of either side of the body for moving slightly up and down, this could act like the flapping wings and can propel its flight while flying. The gadget must have its wings little more flexible so that it can maneuver by pulling and by stretching to balance the flight. To build the flexible wing gadget we need to design with complete new thoughts adding few more joints and the pieces of pipes at right place. It is sure that gadget may had a complex design to make work like the bird wings but it is also sure that it may work by all mean from propelling to maneuvering the flight.
To make this idea into reality it should be designed in the shape of bird wings and with new concept by adding more pieces and parts as it required that could help for making a unique gadget with flexible wings.

If possible the weight of the gadget should be lesser then to the existed gadgets like hang glider. The dimension of the hang glider is some what like this from one wing tip to other it may between 35 to 40 feet across, it has 18 to 20 feet single long pipe either side of the gadget wing, it has control bar made from pipes, it has stiff and rigid wing cover like tarpaulin for making its air foil, and some other additional accessories like cables, ribs pipes, and harness bag. This weight of the assembly of hang glider could weigh up to 35 to 38 kilos, so the innovated gadget weight must be with in the or if possible less then to the hang glider. The changes in design of frame work and the replacement of air foil from rigidity to flexible and by using the latest available technology with advance material it is possible to manufacture the ultimate flexible flying gadget.
To make the flying gadget lighter then to the hang glider there is required some modification with current design like changing the basic wing frame, replacing the rigid tarpaulin type air foil by smooth and flexible cover, and to use best available material to build the gadget lighter.

The gadget must be compact and must be easier to handle and carry to the flying site. For these qualities the flying gadget must design and build of which could have detachable segment and can reassemble with less time or other thing flying gadget must have the folding type of frame. This could help us to handle and carry to the flying site making much easier and with out taking extra efforts for it.

Making quick summary about the description of the points mentioned above we can definitely come to the positive conclusion to think and to design the unique flying gadget that could really takes us in the sky with flapping wings like the birds. 
First the design of the gadget should have a pair of wings with a tail to look and could work for flying like birds.  Secondly the dimension of the gadget should be according to the ratio of the large birds, matching to weight with length and breadth. This calculation result shows the average weight that carries by one square feet surface area of wings is approximately 1.30 kilos. This figure is calculated with the large and the heavy birds so this equation can implement with us and our gadget to get very close result to the mentioned figure. Length of the body plays main role for building the whole structure like the length of the one wing is twice the length of its body, from this explanation one can get rough idea to find the length of the gadget’s wing span according to the height of any person. To make this idea into reality the flying gadget should be designed just like in the shape of bird wings and with new concept by adding more pieces and parts as it required that could help for making a unique gadget with flexible wings. To make the flying gadget lighter then to the hang glider there is required some modification with current design like changing the basic wing frame, replacing the rigid tarpaulin type air foil by smooth and flexible cover, and to use best available material to build the gadget lighter. Collecting all this idea in one box we can really make a unique flying gadget which could be easy and convenient to handle, to carry and to fly with flapping wings like birds.
